About Us
She lost her eldest son, the most loved of her 4 children, 17 years back. That is when Mary Periera a widow, since she was 30, decided to dedicate the rest of her life to the needy and the destitute.Madam Mary has no source of income. So she sold all her property and jewels worth 40 lakhs to give life to a home like this one ‘SD Louis Orphanage & Old Age Home’, which was her son's dream.
SEAN DOUGLAS LOUIS (19-01-1966 to 28-03-1993):
Louis was such a loving person and he was always ready to help the needy. He was an active sports person at school and college.
After graduation he worked in QE2 ship. All his wishes were fulfilled through S.D Louis Home.
The present condition of the ‘home’ is an asbestos sheeted small place just enough for the 30 odd children to sleep.
All children that grows in her home were all literally thrown out by their parents. She brings them in, gets a written statement from their parents in front of the police, and feeds them and take care of their health and studies, like their own mother. And they call her 'Amma' with so much love.’They need me, I need them’ this is what she keeps quoting.
There are around 25 children in the home now. Most of them are abandoned or saved from radicles who tried to kill them by imparting poison.Their daily meals come from the nearby companies and colleges.
With tears in her eyes Madam Mary shudders at the fact that she is not able to take in so many other children who were abandoned and who eventually get killed because of the lack of care and food. She is forced and constrained, as she has no funds to take care of them. There are requests from her friends through out Tamilnadu to take abandoned kids because of lack of resources and funds she is forced not to take them.
